Celeb Rooms Revisited: PT 2 - Lucille Ball
Welcome back to our series in which we revisit our celebrity vignettes and have AI craft a 3D design of the room. As you may know (but in case you don't), here at DWTS we like to showcase our process of using astrology to design a space by doing just that for a celebrity. This week, we revisit our design for Lucille Ball's fabulous mid-century office and how Midjourney tackled the space.
Perhaps because it wasn't our first one, I think the app did a better job of interpreting the design than it did for Harry's house. Perhaps it's because the design is a bit more traditional. Either way, I'm pleased with the outcome. Lucille is a figure known worldwide, but we got to know her better with this design. It's not a shock to find out Lucille is a Leo, as we have all seen her glamourous side and reached the zenith of fame as one of TV's earliest female actors of note. But her Capricorn rising and moon likely grounded her and assisted her in becoming one of the industry's best leaders, a studio head, and a true force to be reckoned with. For all the glamour, elegance, and star power, she was also a no-nonsense businesswoman.
I wanted to portray both sides of her - the elegant, feminine qualities - with the more traditionally masculine Capricorn qualities, in my original design. It also felt right to mix antique/period-appropriate pieces with more modern, mid-century styled pieces for Lucille. She was very much a modern, forward-thinking woman in a seriously patriarchical time.
Do I think the AI design grasped this original intent? Not exactly. The desk and shelving unit, while period appropriate, aren't as subtly smooth and elegant as my original selections. The elegant, leo-inspired rug wasn't captured, either. A funky globe and more art deco-cum-mid-century chair doesn't quite cut it for me. That said, the rendering captured the more Capricornian vibes well, and if I was re-creating an actual period set design I would've said it came close.
Perhaps with additional wording or revisions I could've incorporated the floral pillows, funky lamp, or other small details that I felt really drove the original design 'home'. But part of this series was to test AI from a very basic point of view, with as little revisions or description as possible. I can see this image assisting me as a designer, but it would need additional embellishment and Photoshopping to be client-facing or useful in any way.
Well, we have one more design to show you, so stay tuned to see how that one came out!
